ASUU denies knowledge of any agreement to suspend strike

After the break that lasted almost 7months, due to the Strike couple with covid-19, it was said that the federal government and ASUU had arrived at an agreement to suspend the the ongoing strike on the 28th November 2020. “I am not Aware, all I know is that we had a meeting and we are going to report to our members” The ASUU President, professor Ogunyemi has said.



Yesterday, November 27th 2020, ASUU held another meeting with FG team led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige and the FG reportedly increased its offer for Earned Allowances EA to university based unions and funding for the revitalization of public universities from N65 billion to N70 billion.FG also reportedly agreed to settle the arrears of salaries of the lecturers before December 31 and there were claims that there was indication that an agreement has been in place to call of the strike.However according to Vanguard, ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi has denied knowledge of any agreement to call off the strike, stressing that at the meeting, it was only agreed that union should convey Government message to their organs and get back to Government.
